Testomato's new Slack App simplifies connecting Testomato to Slack and replaces the older webhooks solution.

## Why didn't we have a Slack App before?

Before Slack introduced Apps, [Testomato](https://testomato.com/) allowed users to send notifications to Slack using webhooks. Since this worked very well, there was no reason to switch to a different system. However, Slack now considers webhooks "*an outdated way for teams to integrate with Slack*" and no longer recommends using it.

So we've adapted and now offer our own **Slack App**.

## Backwards compatibility

Our Slack App is backwards-compatible with the original webhooks solution. That means that if you've been using webhook up until now, **you don't need to change anything**. You will continue to get notifications.

## Setup instructions

If you're new to Slack, this is how you can get started:

1. Open the [Instant Notifications Settings](https://testomato.com/user/notifications-settings) page in Testomato
2. In the **Slack Integration** section, click **Add to Slack** button
3. Select channel or username where Testomato.com should post
4. Click on **Allow** button
5. *Optionally* click on **Test notification** button to check if everything works fine.

Notifications can be sent either to the channel (#channel_name) or as a direct message to a specific person (@username).
