# HTTP Response Inspector

## What is the HTTP Response Inspector?

The HTTP Response Inspector sends an HTTP request to any public URL from Testomato's servers and returns the [status code](https://testomato.com/blog/http-status-codes/), [response headers](https://testomato.com/blog/http-response-headers/#what-are-http-headers), and a body preview.

## When to use HTTP Inspect?

- You need to see what a URL returns from outside your network
- You received an error report about a URL and want to see the raw response
- You want to confirm a URL returns the right status and headers before configuring a website monitoring check

This free tool gives you a detailed snapshot for debugging and validation. If you find yourself revisiting this page and manually re-checking the same url and headers, consider adding a [monitoring check](https://testomato.com/website-monitoring/) inside the Testomato app.

Testomato runs the same request on a schedule and alerts you when the response changes. You can set [custom request headers](https://testomato.com/blog/http-response-headers/#custom-request-headers) on any check and monitor for specific status codes, response header values, or body content.

## Technical Notes

- Default User-Agent: `tools.testomato.com http-inspect`
- [Redirects](https://testomato.com/blog/redirect-monitoring/#testomatobot-follows-redirects-by-default) followed automatically; returns final status only
- Body preview: first 500 chars, text responses only; binary returns `null`
- Only public URLs — private/internal IPs are blocked
- Full API spec available at the [OpenAPI reference](https://tools.testomato.com/openapi#tag/http-inspect)
